I've observed countless many people "make a commitment" to their business, then as soon as they stumble upon their first little obstacle they're gone!

Their so-called commitment was, in fact, just idle chatter. Fluff. No substance. Nothing there.

At one time this bothered me. But I've come to the realization that it's necessary to pay no attention to the words people speak. The only thing that impresses me these days is actual business building activity.

If you want to be successful in this business, I strongly suggest you train yourself to be the same.

But let's talk about what commitment really means. Let's talk about your commitment.

Are you in or thinking about starting a business working from home? Have you or are you about to join a network marketing business? If yes, ask yourself some basic questions. And be honest with yourself.

Are you willing to do the really tough things necessary reach your goals? Will you put yourself in uncomfortable situations? Will you move heaven and earth get past the inevitable obstacles you will face?

What are some of those obstacles? Let's look at a couple to give you an idea.

Something you are very likely to have to deal with, and may have already, is the negativity of people around you. You'll probably face many negative remarks, friends will tell you horror stories, your best prospects will turn you down telling you it won't work, and even your spouse or other family members might give you no support and be downright negative.

How you handle this wave of negativity is a very real test of your commitment. And it's one that many in this industry never get over.

Even if you're prepared for it and expect it, dealing effectively with it can be very challenging for a lot of people.

The best answer is to surround yourself with like-minded people who support you in your goals. This is an easy statement to make, but requires tremendous effort to do. But it's critical.

Something else you might struggle with is managing your time.

Let's face it, after a long day at your j.o.b., battling rush hour traffic, spending some time with your family, it can be tough to muster the energy to devote to your business. Quitting might seem like the easiest thing to do.

Like all objects, we humans tend to search for the path of least resistance. And quitting when faced with exhaustion at the end of a long day is that path. That becomes a true test of your commitment: is it strong enough to get you past those obstacles.

When you're at an event and you see the top leaders in your company on the stage, we tend to think they had it easy and that they were always successful. When someone excels at a task they tend to make it look effortless!

Of course if you stop to think about it you realize that their success was not handed to them. They had to push through all manner of obstacles. In fact, the greater the success, the more obstacles they faced and overcame. The major difference between them and those who are not sharing the stage is this: They made firm commitments, they worked on their business every day, they attended the training, and they became leaders for their teams. In other words, they did all the things you can do and must do to reach the same level of success.

You need to treat your business just like that.

Remember that success is not a sudden thing that just appears one day! It comes about as a result of all of your efforts that you make on a daily basis. Consistently learning, taking action, failing (yes, failing!), learning, then taking more action, that's what leads to success.
