In order to get into this program, you have to fill out some applications and show proof of your income. Your income is used as the main deciding factor for whether or not you get housing.

You do not have to show your income if you are already getting assistance from the government in other programs. In that case you would just need to show documentation that you are getting benefits. Once you are approved for a voucher, you can go out and start looking for a place to live.

Best way to start your search is to drive around the neighborhood. Using this method, you get to actually see the apartments and the neighborhood they are in. You can also go and see inside the apartments and find out whether that is what you are looking for.

You will also want to get some other information from the complex such as fees that you will have to pay, utilities that you will have to pay, and other things offered by the these apartments.

When you have set your eyes on the apartment unit that you want, be prepared to ask the landlord to fix issues if there are any. Make sure all problems are fixed before you move in.

In some cases, you may be put on a waiting list for these apartments. Some cities have a much greater demand for these apartments than others. So in these cases, you wait could end up being several months. Just put your name on the list for several of these apartments and you may be lucky and get one soon.
