Georgia, like many southern states is rich in historical significance and, especially Atlanta, has played an important role in the history of the United States. During the Civil War, Atlanta was an important military supply hub and railroad and, in 1964, General Sherman ordered the war ravaged city burned to the ground.
In the present day, Atlanta is very much built up and brimming with activity. Filled with all that good old fashioned southern hospitality, Atlanta is a great place to visit. There are some great options for budget accommodation when visiting the city, you can opt for a motel or pop into a bed and breakfast for something a little more homely. It is a modern city that still holds vestiges of its colourful history.
For those with a taste for a calm restful atmosphere, Georgia offers resorts and areas that serve everyone. If you set towards the south east Georgian coast, you can enjoy a refreshing stay at the Sea Island Resorts. From 1928, Sea Island Resort has been offering top notch 5-star accommodations. Other things you can do in addition to lounging on beaches and pools here include, , horse riding, tennis, golf and a massage session at its luxurious spa.
Another quaint little city that is worth visiting is Savannah. It is a Southern enclave that just oozes old world charm. From its cobblestone streets to the beautifully restored houses and countryside charm, it is a great family destination. It also has the novel distinction of being the only city that has been a birthday present and to a President no less. It was given to Lincoln as a birthday present!
While it isn't a birthday present anymore, it is still a charming city and one that has retained its flavour and identity while developing and moving forward with the rest of the country. Music lovers will enjoy the chance to soak up some local tunes while history and culture buffs might like a visit to the museum. If you are the outdoorsy type then you might want to grab a kayak and head out to sea. Who knows, you might just run into some dolphins.
Vacations in Georgia can also be all about nature and the environment, with the perfect destination being the Blue Ridge Mountains that are in the north of the state. You can rent a cabin or get a permit and camp out in the great outdoors. It is a great opportunity for the whole family to really come together. Whether it's by the campfire at night as you share stories or while fishing or hiking thought the trails, there are numerous options for family fun. Adrenaline junkies will definitely enjoy the opportunity to go white water rafting down the Ocoee rapids.
So whatever flavour of vacation you're looking for you are bound to find it here. With so many possible things to do in Georgia, you will be spoilt for choice.
